Welding and Fabrication students at Ohio Hi-Point Career Center designed and constructed a sculpture inspired by the iconic flag raising on Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima in WWII. The sculpture, made of 1/2-inch aluminum, was permanently installed at AMVETS Post #39 in Indian Lake. The project provided students with a hands-on learning experience while honoring a significant event in American military history.

The creation of the Iwo Jima sculpture by the Ohio Hi-Point Career Center welding students is a notable example of hands-on learning that connects students to a significant historical event. The project highlights the importance of craftsmanship and historical awareness. The sculpture's permanent installation at AMVETS Post #39 ensures it will serve as a lasting tribute to the sacrifices made during WWII.

Being outdoors, we chose 1/2-inch aluminum as the base metal. One formative matter to take into consideration was the fact that this sculpture had to be aesthetically sound from both sides. Therefore, our design had to accommodate a pleasing view from the left and right sides.

We want to thank AMVETS #39 for the opportunity to complete this project and remember this important part of history.
